The most common cause for this fault is when the UNLEADED solder on under the CPU and RSX chip cracks, this is due to the solder breaking down due to heat stress. It can also be caused by the RSX or CPU chip itself actually failing, if this is the case then a reball is required.

We repair this fault by resoldering the consoles mainboard using our Computer controlled Dark Infrared BGA rework stations, these safely re solder (reflow) the main board to exact manufacturers specifications. This ensures that your consoles main board is not damaged or stressed during this process.

PS3 brought back from the dead

My PS3 unfortunately got the dreaded yellow light of death which scared me quite a bit as I definitely don't want to send it to the tip. As daft as it sounds, this old console has some sentimental value to me. I sent it for repair to console wizard by using the parcel force option in the checkout and it made the process really easy. Just make sure you wrap your console up well to keep it safe in transit and then they pick it up from your address on a chosen day. I'm happy to report that it came back safe and sound and is working well again! At this point it has only been a week but the 3 month warranty does give me some peace of mind.

    Playstation 3 YLOD.

Having got my PS3 second hand a few years ago, it had given me good service until I was unfortunately affected by the YLOD which I had heard about but hadn't given much thought to until it happened. I should in hindsight have known something was amiss with it & had been for a long while as the fan had been going like a Helo on take off not long after start up for ages & the unit had become quite an effective room heater, but you sort of get used to it as it's a slow process to get to this stage. But I'll remember now hopefully to keep an eye out, not that I'm expecting problems hopefully. Having done a few checks to make sure this was the YLOD I looked in to doing a repair myself but decided it too risky a procedure & one you really need the right gear to effect a repair successfully. So I contacted Sony as I had heard they do or rather did an exchange unit but all they seemed to be offering was a crappy used PS3 Slim. They obviously don't read their emails properly or understand English as I had stated it was an early PS3 60gb & the reasons why it had to stay that way, but they didn't mention or pick up on anything I'd said & just sent me round in the same circle on their website that I had already done. So then I looked around & came across Console Wizard who seemed geared up for all repairs & had good reviews. After speaking to someone who was most helpful on the blower, I ordered the repair online & it is a well worked out process including postage & return options all as a package. That was probably a month ago & the fan has been hardly running to mildly running & is very different & obviously much quieter than I can remember. Only once has it speeded up & dropped back again but that is how it's supposed to work & to nothing like it was before when really it must of been running at full speed permanently. So in short you have nothing to worry about getting a repair or service here. Probably better than put together at Sony as it seems one of the main reasons for overheating is a lack of & breakdown of a quality thermal paste from the heat sink to the chips enough of which often wasn't put on at the factory. I should also add I would never use an additional external fan as the unit is designed to cool itself well enough when working properly & these seem to block rather than help airflow seems to be the consensus. Mine came with one but though never used by me who knows if the original owner did, that may not have helped the issue.
