Tokin Capacitor replacement
Our engineers can remove the most common failing Tokin capacitor from your healthy Playstation 3 console and upgrade this to Tantalum Capacitors, this takes away the weak part of the circuit on this brilliant console.
The upgrade involves removing one of the Tokin Capacitors on the RSX Chip (this the most common failure point) and replacing this with 4 x 470uf Tantalum Capacitors.

One is normally sufficient due to the increased Capacitance value of the four combined new Tantatum capacitors.

Powering off problems
Yellow Light of Death

GLOD (green light of death fault), when the console powers on, but there is no picture on the screen
High Percemtage of Yellow Light of Death (YLOD) faults - as this can be down to a faulty RSX Chip and can either need a Reflow or Reball repair (where the faulty chip is replaced)
The De Lid process of the IHS Plates from the Cell and RSX chips
This involves removing the bonded Aluminium Plates that are attached to the CELL (CPU) and RSX (Graphics Processor chips. These plates are call IHS (Internal Heat Shield) and allow the transfer of heat from both of the Main Chips to the chassis of the console.
There is thermal compound between the IHS plates and the Cell and RSX chips and also Thermal paste on the top of the IHS plates connecting the IHS plate to the Chassis of the console.
The IHS Plate removed from the Cell (CPU)
The Thermal compound has a life expectancy of around 3 - 5 years from the release of the console, so every console is well past this time period.
The final part of the repair
The final part of the Life extender service is a:
A full internal clean of your console
Fresh uprated thermal paste is also applied to the TOP of the IHS plates on the Cell and RSX chips
Re assembly and full soak test for 2 hours to ensure there are no problems when you receieve back your console
*** Note ***
The De lid process does have an element of risk as the IHS Plate are bonded to the Cell (CPU), removal of this plate can cause the console to go into the YLOD fault.
This is due to the CPU itself micro cracking during the process.
If this occurs, then there is no way to resolve this as the CPU is not a replaceble Chip.
(The risk is small, but we have to make you aware of it and Console Wizard take no responsiblity if this occurs during the process)

A very good professional service so close to perfect
I recently lost a backwards compatible PS3 that my dad gave me so I purchased another PS3 for a very excellent price. But I think the seller thought selling a PS3 which was literally 200g heavier than my old but same model console due to dust. So I applied for a console wizard life extension upgrade on my PS3 along with it's free service cleaning. Here is my experience The good Ps3 arrived back clean and now only weighing slightly (15g more) more than my original console which must be from the extra thermal paste and improved capacitors. Ps3 booted up completely fine and and is more silent than any console I ever owned ( I thought the fan was broken orginally but I could still feel the airflow so it's still working) Accepted games like usual And console no longer looks like it has a viral infection The minor issue I experienced. The website took my money but never actually gave me any indicator that I purchased the service and I called console wizard and they resolved the issue promptly.
What would I think would make this a 5 star service? I'm sure I will use console wizard again as I don't see anyone better at this than them in the whole UK. I would like better protection to the buyer. I know the process of delidding is a risky and difficult process that's why it's pricey. However I know i would have a easier time recommending this service to others if console wizard would willingly accept responsibility if a staff fails the service and damages the console and would find a good way of compensating the customer. Eventhough I doubt console wizard has ever damaged someone's console however this accountability towards the customer instead of themselves makes me feel there is a big risk involved.
And additionally I believe a great addition for console wizard's services is being able to purchase console specific packaging straight from console wizard for peace of mind for the customer. For example a PS3 box for £10 shipped to your door so you can pack your PS3 safely and easily. And one I would really love to see is a PS3 polishing service. Orginal PS3s get scratched like crazy and I would love to to pay console wizard to polish my console so it would look brand new again! I would easily pay £20 for a polishing service Conclusion I think console wizard is a great and professional company who is the best in the country with some company policy issues that may or may not be a deal breaker for some people. However for me I will definitely be using this service again for my 2nd PS3

Highly Recommended! PS3 (Phat) Life Extension Service
I bought a used Phat PS3 as a retro machine to play PS1-PS3 titles but concerned at how noisy it was and had no information on how well it had been looked after.
Booked in for the Life Extension service, the guys were extremely helpful, communicated throughout and delivered back to me a console that has been running better than new ever since.
I would highly recommend Console Wizard to anybody considering doing the same.
