Our modification includes the appropriate 5.1kΩ resistors on the USB-C CC connections.

These allow a compatible USB-C power source to correctly detect the connected device and provide the appropriate 5V supply.

This means you aren't restricted to USB-A-to-USB-C cables simply because your Nintendo 3DS was originally designed long before USB-C became commonplace.

5.1kΩ USB-C CC Resistors Fitted

Simply replacing the original socket with a connector that happens to be USB-C shaped does not provide a properly implemented USB-C charging conversion.

USB-C uses Configuration Channel, or CC, connections as part of determining that a device requiring power has been connected.

As part of our Nintendo 3DS USB-C modification, we install the necessary 5.1kΩ CC pull-down resistors.

This allows suitable USB-C charging sources to recognise the modified Nintendo 3DS and provide the 5V power required for charging.

Charging Only – No Data Transfer

This is an important point to understand before ordering the modification.

The USB-C connection is installed for:

Charging the Nintendo 3DS only.

It does not add USB data-transfer functionality to the console.

Connecting the modified Nintendo 3DS to a PC or Mac with a USB-C cable does not allow the console to transfer files over USB.
