Why Are 5.1kΩ CC Resistors Used?

USB-C includes Configuration Channel connections, commonly referred to as CC lines.

On our compatible USB-C charging modifications, the appropriate 5.1kΩ pull-down resistors are fitted to the CC connections. These allow a suitable USB-C source to recognise the modified console as a device requiring power.

This is what allows properly configured modifications such as our Nintendo DS Lite USB-C conversion to work with suitable USB-C to USB-C charging sources as well as USB-A to USB-C cables.

It is an important distinction between a correctly configured USB-C charging conversion and simply replacing the physical connector with a USB-C shaped socket.

Does a Nintendo DS USB-C Mod Add Data Transfer?

No. This is one of the most important points to understand about our Nintendo USB-C charging modifications.

The USB-C socket is installed as a replacement for the console's original charging connection.

It provides:

Installing a USB-C connector does not automatically give an older Nintendo console USB data functionality.

The USB-C socket should not be confused with a new USB data port. The conversion provides charging functionality rather than adding file-transfer capabilities to the console.

Can USB-C Replace a Broken Nintendo Charging Port?
