Want to upgrade your Nintendo DSi XL to USB-C charging and stop relying on the original proprietary Nintendo charger? Console Wizard provides a professional Nintendo DSi XL USB-C charging port modification, permanently replacing the original charging socket with a modern USB-C connection.

Our Nintendo DSi XL USB-C modification costs £49.99. The original charging socket is removed and a USB-C port is professionally installed in the same charging-port location.

The modification includes 5.1kΩ CC resistors, allowing the converted Nintendo DSi XL to charge using both USB-A to USB-C and USB-C to USB-C cables with suitable USB power sources.

This USB-C modification is for charging only and does not add USB data-transfer functionality to the Nintendo DSi XL.

Nintendo DSi XL USB-C modifications are carried out at our Bolton, Greater Manchester repair centre, with a UK-wide service available for customers throughout the country.

Upgrade Your Nintendo DSi XL to USB-C Charging

The Nintendo DSi XL originally uses Nintendo's proprietary charging connector. Our USB-C modification replaces this original socket with a modern USB-C charging connection.

Once converted, you no longer need the original Nintendo DSi XL charger. Instead, the console can be charged using a suitable USB-C cable and compatible USB power source.

This is particularly convenient if you already use USB-C cables for other devices and no longer want to keep a separate proprietary Nintendo charging cable.

USB-C Installed in the Original Charging Port Location

Our Nintendo DSi XL USB-C modification does not add a second charging socket elsewhere on the console.

The original Nintendo charging socket is removed and the replacement USB-C socket is installed in the same original charging-port location.

The modification is permanent. Once converted, the Nintendo DSi XL is charged through the new USB-C connection.

    USB-A to USB-C Charging Supported

The modified Nintendo DSi XL can be charged using a suitable USB-A to USB-C cable.

This allows the console to be connected to an appropriate conventional USB-A power source without requiring the original Nintendo DSi XL charger.

    USB-C to USB-C Charging Supported

Our Nintendo DSi XL USB-C modification also supports USB-C to USB-C charging with suitable USB-C power sources.

A correctly implemented USB-C charging conversion requires more than simply fitting a USB-C-shaped socket.

We install the appropriate 5.1kΩ CC pull-down resistors, allowing a compatible USB-C source to detect the connected device and provide the required 5V supply.

This means the modified Nintendo DSi XL is not restricted to USB-A-to-USB-C charging and can also be charged using suitable USB-C-to-USB-C charging equipment.

    5.1kΩ USB-C CC Resistors Fitted

USB-C uses Configuration Channel, or CC, connections to determine when a device requiring power has been connected.

Our Nintendo DSi XL USB-C modification includes the appropriate 5.1kΩ CC pull-down resistors.

These provide the correct USB-C source detection required for compatible USB-C charging sources to provide 5V power to the modified console.

This allows the conversion to support both:

    • USB-A to USB-C charging
    • USB-C to USB-C charging

This does not make the Nintendo DSi XL a fast-charging device. The USB-C connection replaces the original charging input while the console continues to charge according to its own charging circuitry.

Charging Only – No USB Data Transfer

It is important to understand exactly what this Nintendo DSi XL USB-C modification provides.

The replacement USB-C socket is installed for:

    • Charging the Nintendo DSi XL

It does not add USB data-transfer functionality.

Connecting the modified Nintendo DSi XL to a computer through USB-C will not allow files to be transferred or make the console operate as a USB storage device.

The original Nintendo DSi XL charging connector is a power connection, so replacing it with USB-C does not create a new data interface within the console.

Original Nintendo DSi XL Charger Can No Longer Be Used

The original Nintendo charging socket is physically removed as part of the USB-C conversion.

After the modification, the original Nintendo DSi XL charger can therefore no longer be connected to the console.

The Nintendo DSi XL must instead be charged through its new USB-C connection.

Original Charging Cradle Can No Longer Be Used

As part of our Nintendo DSi XL USB-C conversion, the original charging-cradle contacts are removed.

This means the original Nintendo charging cradle can no longer be used after the modification.

Charging is carried out exclusively through the new USB-C port.

Please take this into consideration before ordering the modification if you currently use an original Nintendo DSi XL charging cradle.

USB-C Modification for a Damaged DSi XL Charging Port

The USB-C modification can also be selected when the original Nintendo DSi XL charging socket is damaged or unreliable.

    Common charging-port symptoms include:

    • Nintendo DSi XL not charging
    • Charging cuts in and out
    • Charger needs moving or holding at an angle
    • Charging plug feels loose
    • Charging socket is visibly damaged
    • Internal charging-port contacts are damaged
    • Charging socket has become loose from the motherboard

Instead of replacing the faulty socket with another original-style Nintendo connector, we can remove it and convert the DSi XL to USB-C charging.

Repairable Charging Port Motherboard Pad or Track Damage Included

A badly damaged charging socket can sometimes lift or damage the motherboard solder pads or tracks underneath the port.

If we find repairable motherboard pad or track damage associated with the original charging port, the required repair work is included as part of this £49.99 USB-C modification.

This is particularly useful where an original charging socket has been physically damaged or has previously been removed and the motherboard connections require repair before the replacement USB-C port can be installed correctly.

What Is Included in the Nintendo DSi XL USB-C Modification?

    • USB-C fitted in the original charging-port location
    • 5.1kΩ CC resistors fitted

    • Repairable charging-port motherboard pad or track damage included

How We Carry Out the Nintendo DSi XL USB-C Mod

The Nintendo DSi XL is carefully dismantled to access the motherboard and original charging socket.

The original charging connector is professionally removed and the motherboard connections are inspected. Any repairable charging-port pad or track damage is repaired where required.

The USB-C charging socket and required 5.1kΩ CC resistors are then installed before the console is professionally reassembled.

Charging operation is tested after installation, including the USB-C charging connection, before the Nintendo DSi XL is returned.

Nintendo DSi XL USB-C Mod FAQs

How much does the Nintendo DSi XL USB-C modification cost?

Our Nintendo DSi XL USB-C charging port modification costs £49.99.

Does the USB-C mod support USB-C to USB-C charging?

Yes. We install the appropriate 5.1kΩ CC pull-down resistors, allowing compatible USB-C sources to detect the modified Nintendo DSi XL and provide 5V power for charging.

    Can I also use a USB-A to USB-C cable?

Yes. The modified Nintendo DSi XL supports both USB-A to USB-C and USB-C to USB-C charging with suitable cables and power sources.

Does the Nintendo DSi XL USB-C mod support fast charging?

No. Fitting USB-C does not turn the Nintendo DSi XL into a fast-charging device. The USB-C connection provides the charging input while the console's original charging circuitry controls how the battery is charged.

Does the USB-C port provide data transfer?

No. This modification is for charging only. It does not add USB data-transfer functionality to the Nintendo DSi XL.

Can I still use my original Nintendo DSi XL charger?

No. The original Nintendo charging socket is removed during the modification, so the console must be charged through USB-C afterwards.

Can I still use the original charging cradle?

No. The original charging-cradle contacts are removed as part of this conversion, so the charging cradle can no longer be used.

Can you carry out the USB-C mod if my original charging port is broken?

Yes. The modification can be carried out as an alternative to fitting another original-style charging socket. Repairable motherboard pad or track damage associated with the charging port is included in the £49.99 service.

What if the motherboard pads have been damaged during a previous charging-port repair attempt?

Repairable charging-port motherboard pad or track damage is included in this service. The motherboard will be inspected before the USB-C port is installed.
