Common Signs of a Virus or Malware Infection

Malware can affect a computer in many different ways. Some infections are immediately obvious, while others operate quietly in the background.

    Common symptoms include:

    • Windows suddenly becoming very slow
    • Unwanted pop-ups and advertisements
    • Web browser redirects
    • Search engine or homepage changes
    • Fake security or virus warnings
    • Unknown programs appearing
    • Browser extensions you did not install
    • Antivirus warnings
    • High CPU, memory or disk usage
    • Windows crashes or unusual behaviour

If your PC has started behaving differently without an obvious reason, malware or unwanted software may be responsible.

What Does Our PC Malware Removal Service Include?

Our engineers inspect the Windows installation and use appropriate diagnostic and security tools to identify malicious or unwanted software.

    The service can include:

    • Virus removal
    • Malware removal
    • Trojan removal
    • Spyware removal
    • Potentially unwanted program removal
    • Browser hijacker removal
    • Malicious browser extension removal
    • Windows temporary-file clean-up
    • Windows optimisation
    • Installation of suitable free antivirus protection

We also check for obvious unwanted software that may be contributing to poor system performance.

We Try to Keep Your Existing Windows Installation

Our first approach is to clean the existing Windows installation rather than automatically wiping the computer and reinstalling Windows.

This helps retain your existing applications, settings and personal files wherever the condition of the operating system allows.

Some severe infections can damage Windows system files or security settings to the point where cleaning the infection alone will not provide a reliable computer. If this happens, we will advise you if a Windows repair or reinstallation is required.

What if the PC Is Slow but Does Not Have a Virus?

A slow PC is not necessarily infected with malware. Poor performance can also be caused by a failing hard drive, insufficient memory, overheating, excessive startup software, Windows corruption or other hardware problems.

If our testing indicates that the reported problem is being caused by a separate hardware or software fault, we will explain what we have found and advise you of the appropriate repair.

We will not carry out additional chargeable repairs without your approval.

    Antivirus Protection After the Clean-Up

Once the malware-removal process has been completed, we can install suitable free antivirus protection where required.

If you already pay for a security package that you want to continue using, please tell us when booking the repair. Customers should cancel any unwanted paid antivirus subscriptions directly with the relevant provider if they no longer wish to use them.

No antivirus product can guarantee that a computer will never become infected again, so care should still be taken with email attachments, downloads, browser notifications and unfamiliar websites.

PC Virus & Malware Removal FAQs

How much does PC virus removal cost?

Our standard PC virus, malware and Trojan removal service costs £69.99.

    Will you erase my files?

Our first approach is to clean the existing Windows installation rather than automatically wiping the computer. However, data can never be guaranteed and severely damaged Windows installations may require additional work.

Can you remove browser pop-ups and redirects?

Yes. We check for browser hijackers, malicious or unwanted extensions, notification abuse and other browser-related threats as part of the service.

    Do you install antivirus afterwards?

Yes. Suitable free antivirus protection can be installed after the system has been cleaned.

What happens if malware has damaged Windows?

If Windows cannot be repaired reliably as part of the malware clean-up, we will contact you and explain any additional Windows repair or reinstallation required before proceeding.

Can a slow PC be caused by something other than malware?

Yes. Storage failure, overheating, insufficient memory, Windows corruption and other hardware faults can all cause poor performance.
